I really think Isla and the Happily Ever After will satisfy Stephanie Perkins fans. Perkins once again incorporates just the right amount of feel-good cliches with her unique characters and authentic dialogue and representation of the teenager.
As always, her writing is stellar and makes the stories that much more bubbly and easy to fly through. It's one of my favorite aspects of her books! Many of the problems the characters go through are so relatable, and they make mistakes, but then we as readers get to learn from them--and see how they can be fixed. That's something I really like about realistic fiction, especially in Perkins' stories.
Lastly, I'll mention Josh, the love interest. He is most definitely a departure from Cricket and Etienne, and in the very best way. You get the best of three worlds with her standalones, and I don't think you'll be disappointed by him. He might just be my favorite! Though I have to say my favorite story is probably Lola and the Boy Next Door.
Do I recommend this? Absolutely. It's a great summer read. And if you've read the first two stories and are in love with the characters as much as I am, then Isla is a must-read--every one of Perkins' main characters, from all three books, gets a happily ever after in Isla! It was the perfect ending!
