Faking Normal by Courtney C. Stevens

An edgy, realistic, and utterly captivating novel from an exciting new voice in teen fiction.
Alexi Littrell hasn't told anyone what happened to her over the summer. Ashamed and embarrassed, she hides in her closet and compulsively scratches the back of her neck, trying to make the outside hurt more than the inside does.
When Bodee Lennox, the quiet and awkward boy next door, comes to live with the Littrells, Alexi discovers an unlikely friend in "the Kool-Aid Kid," who has secrets of his own. As they lean on each other for support, Alexi gives him the strength to deal with his past, and Bodee helps her find the courage to finally face the truth.
A searing, poignant book, Faking Normal is the extraordinary debut novel from an exciting new author--Courtney C. Stevens.

I started reading this book and couldn’t put it down. I wanted to know what happened next, and what the outcome of the story was. When you read a book you want to connect and this is one of those books. Right from the start it brought you in and you were able to lose yourself and dive into the story. I think this is a book my friends would love just because it has a little bit of everything in it: romance and mystery. It crossed a lot of genres, but it all blended. I loved this book and would read more from this author.

Rachel's note: I also read this book and adored it. The writing is exquisite, making it a smooth and easy read. Also, the voice of Alexi is strong and real--I found her abundantly relatable. I think readers should know going into this book that there are some darker but very realistic plot elements that the two main characters, Alexi and Bodee, experience. This is an emotional novel with a bright and inspiring ending! You won't want to miss out on this great new contemp.

This book releases February of 2014!

  1. Ooo, I'm reading/reviewing this one next week! Or the week after? Sometimes in the next two weeks. I have a feeling this book will break my heart - in a good way! It sounds beautiful - mystery AND romance has a mystical feel to it, wouldn't you agree? I don't read too many novels that evoke strong emotional responses from me, but I'm very excited to read this one - perhaps for that reason!

    Wonderful review, Izzy! :)

    1. Yes you made me VERY excited to read this book! I'm glad that I picked it up too, because contemporary is not something I lean towards, especially one like this. However, it just made it that much more of a refreshing read for me!
